Before we take a look at the X1, it is useful to consider briefly the background, t see why this uber-phone Sony Ericsson is going to set the world alight ... And, more importantly, to see where he came from, and this heritage, it has to shoulder! Which perhaps explains why the iPhone sold so well there, and sold in much smaller numbers by the United Kingdom.
Coming to America - Sony Ericsson X1 Xperia takes Manhattan (kind of) This is the problem with the United States mobile telephone market. It is dominated by things like the RAZR, low-power phones that are not much. All this is partly apathy, and partly because the major networks want people over there to stay in long, long contracts with cheapo mobile phones. And apart from the iPhone, the only operating system argued that it is widely available in the United States is Windows Mobile. Symbian, for example, is severely under-represented, which is why Sony Ericsson is in the bed of Windows Mobile for the X1.
Providing high-end phone (not one of those low-end, mobile phones boring), who will do things similar to the iPhone, and the authority with an operating system people know, and you have a sure-fire hit. Simple, see? For this reason, the X1 is powered by Windows Mobile, Sony Ericsson knew they had a better chance of cracking the American market if they do. Of course, if the device also allows customers to target the most here in the 'outside world', then so much the better. And if you want to compare mobile phones, think about something like the RAZR (representing America), and then think about the HTC TyTN (representing UK).
